The Government of the Republic of Cuba has learned with grief and sadness of the violent, surprise attacks carried out this morning against civilian and official facilities in the cities of New York and Washington which have caused numerous deaths. Cuba's position against any terrorist action is known. It is not possible to forget that for over 40 years our country has been a victim of such actions fostered from within the territory of the United States. Both for historical reasons and ethical principles, the Government of our country strongly rejects and condemns the attacks against the aforementioned facilities and hereby expresses its most heartfelt sympathies to the American people for the painful, unjustifiable loss of human lives resulting from such attacks. In this bitter hour, our people commiserate with the people of the United States and express their full willingness to cooperate within its modest possibilities with the health institutions and any other medical or humanitarian organization of that country in treating, caring for and rehabilitating the victims caused by this mornings events.

DECLARACION DEL GOBIERNO DE LA REPUBLICA DE CUBA

El Gobierno de la Repœblica de Cuba ha recibido con dolor y tristeza las noticias sobre los ataques violentos y sorpresivos realizados en la ma–ana de hoy contra instalaciones civiles y oficiales en las ciudades de Nueva York y Washington, que han provocado numerosas v’ctimas. Es conocida la posici—n de Cuba contra toda acci—n terrorista. No es posible olvidar que nuestro pueblo ha sido v’ctima durante m‡s de 40 a–os de tales acciones promovidas desde el propio territorio de Estados Unidos. Tanto por razones hist—ricas como por principios Žticos, el Gobierno de nuestro pa’s rechaza y condena con toda energ’a los ataques cometidos contra las mencionadas instalaciones y expresa sus m‡s sinceras condolencias al pueblo norteamericano por las dolorosas e injustificables pŽrdidas de vidas humanas que han provocado dichos ataques. En esta hora amarga, nuestro pueblo se solidariza con el pueblo de Estados Unidos y expresa su total disposici—n a cooperar, en la medida de sus modestas posibilidades con las instituciones sanitarias y con cualquier otra instituci—n de car‡cter medico o humanitario de ese pa’s en la atenci—n, cuidado y rehabilitaci—n de las v’ctimas ocasionadas por los hechos ocurridos en la ma–ana de hoy.
