'Determined opposition' to war needed Communique to the Workers of the World Statement by the Confederation of Cuban Workers (CTC) Imperialist escalation threatens the world again and is preparing, through the might of their weapons, to secure for themselves energy resources needed to maintain its anachronistic and suicidal economic system of neoliberalism, consumerism, wastefulness and destruction of the planet. The preparations for war and the repeated statements of the emperor and other high level officials of the government of the United States to attack the Iraqi people, using the unbelievable excuse of the crusade against terrorism, prove it. In view of these actions, which violate the most elemental human rights, we, the workers of entire world should present the most determined opposition through our solidarity and unity against that holocaust that will create more hunger and misery for our children, our families and the peoples of the whole world, including the people of the United States. The Confederation of Cuban Workers, expressing the feelings of more than three million members, rejects such imperial pretensions, which will cause the death of tens of thousands of people, the destruction of innumerable natural and human productive resources. We call on all international labor organizations to vigorously participate against such aggression and we ask the International Labor Organization to reject the expected genocide against the working people of Iraq and the adverse consequences this will have on labor relations throughout the world. There is no decent job without peace. We demand that the Empire respects the human rights of the Iraqi people, the right to self-determination, respect for international norms of peaceful existence and respect to United Nations. A better world is possible without wars. --Havana, September 22, 2002 _____________
