Crisis and Rebellion: Reports from Argentina
The heavily-unionized South American nation of Argentina is heading towards a pre-revolutionary situation. Sunk by the relentless press of Western imperialism and its loansharking demands, the capitalist economy is in shambles. But Argentina cannot be tossed on the bone heaps. Imperialism wants full "restitution" of its "loans" --and even continued payments. And Argentina's 'default' can't be left to stand forever lest other "debt" victims get ideas.

What's more, the workers, farmers and youth of Argentina are yet to be reckoned with. Their capitalist rulers' demands that they pay for their masters' crisis is leaving millions unemployed, stripped of life savings, and bereft of elementary social services.

In response, the working people of Argentina have risen repeatedly in defense of their rights, staging a series of general strikes over the past year and now erupting in rebellions that have toppled four presidents in three weeks.

Far from being the product of "errors" or "miscalculations," the Argentine collapse comes from the normal operation of the imperialist system --and is just the lastest in a wave that will only grow. Closely following events in Argentina --and standing in solidarity with our fellow working people-- is essential to resisting the international war now unfolding.

We're fortunate that the U.S. socialist newsweekly, The Militant, has dispatched a reporting team to Argentina. (A plug for much-needed financial help for this effort appears at the end of several of the articles ... don't hesitate to pitch in.) I'll try to re-post their dispatches as soon as possible, but the fastest and surest way is to read The Militant every week (new issues are posted on Wednesdays). You can also subcribe to the printed edition.
